Get to Know the Team Behind Our Picnic Spot

When I was less than a year old, I went on my first picnic with my parents and our dogs at our farm. With this time spent together, picnicking at the farm became one of our favorite past times.

Picnicking became the way we celebrated accomplishments, and a gigantic pick me up for disappointments!

When I was 17, my boyfriend's tux did not come in for the prom. Guess what we did? I wore my prom dress, and he wore the dressiest most 80s thing he had, and my parents took us on a picnic. I probably wouldn't even remember that prom today! But I definitely remember that picnic!

When my dad passed away at a young age, he was the first of anyone in his age and friend group to pass. We needed a different option for his funeral. A picnic at a vineyard since he was a wine man was perfect!

I'm not sure what made it so fun and exciting and special. Was it the "special" food we always made? The beef stick and Hickory Farms mustard were always at my mom's feet. Or the apples rolling around on the floor of the back seat. Maybe John Denver on the 8track. Or the fact that we were all together and we enjoyed each other's company so much!

All of those! Every single one! Definitely, All of it!

We'd pull up to our farm, a picnic shelter, or a state park. It was as though we were on a different planet. Definitely in our own little perfect picnic world! The air smelled better than it did anywhere else!

The second the picnic basket and our handmade quilt came from the car, my brother and I knew we were in for a treat! I bet that quilt and basket, which my parents used for a decade before they had us, have seen more cities and picnic sites than I can imagine!

We'd open the basket and begin setting up our picnic feast. Always a delicious meat and cheese tray, which we now call charcuterie, was our favorite because we could eat it with our fingers.

I lost several people in 2021 who I expected to be able to hold tight to for years and decades to come!! In an attempt to heal myself, I've realized that I am happiest when a picnic is in sight! I don't even have to be a participant!

So… welcome to Our Picnic Spot! My attempt to spread lots of light, love, and joy through my festive, colorful, and whimsical picnics!
